Guide Course in UNESCO Global Magma Geopark

After last year’s Ambassador Course, run online due to Covid-19, UNESCO Global Magma Geopark, Eigersund Næring og Havn KF and Smaabyen Flekkefjord delivered the third edition of the Geopark Guide Course, an action included in the RURITAGE Action Plan, on 20th and 21st of March

The course, that took place in the Sogndastrand wooden village in Sokndal municipality, was attended by 16 people from the local Museum, Local Guide Centre, farmers, local historic associations and tourism enterprises.

The course included themes such as geology, culture, local history, nature, sustainable development, tourism, mining, guiding techniques, storytelling and a first aid course.

UNESCO Global Magma Geopark introduced RURITAGE to the participants: the local food themes as one of the pillars of the Geopark, the geological heritage and its international values.

Participants had a tour in the Blåfjell mines learning about mining history and landscape interpretation, guided by Pål Thjømøe, geologist and senior guide.

The geopark is now planning a “Geopark evening café” involving local people in different thematic related to the Geopark to implement during next Autumn.
