Website:  www.incultum.eu

Short description of the project:

INCULTUM is an Innovation Action funded by the Horizon 2020 Programme of the European Union. The project is focused on novel approaches to urban and regional development through cultural tourism. The consortium is composed by an interdisciplinary group of partners. It includes academia, municipalities, action groups and SMEs that deploy effectively knowledge and participate in the various project’s activities.

The project deals with the challenges and opportunities of cultural tourism with the aim of furthering sustainable social, cultural and economic development. It aims to explore the full potential of marginal and peripheral areas when managed by local communities and stakeholders. Innovative participatory approaches are tested in a wide range of experimental pilots where locals are transformed into protagonists, adopting digital and participatory solutions.

The results of the pilots are promoted as good practices to be replicated and translated into strategies and policies.

Liaison with RURITAGE:

INCULTUM and RURITAGE have in common a keen focus on empowering marginal and rural areas in the promotion of their cultural and natural heritage, which not only needs to be safeguarded but also leveraged for communities-driven sustainable development. The INCULTUM project will build on RURITAGE outcomes and policy development to support strategies for participatory approaches, with the aim to unlock new opportunities of growth in peripheral areas.
