PIAM Onlus Ottobaso Walk

Otto Basso Monferrato” is a PIAM Onlus association project born in 2019. Its goal is to promote the northwest territories of the Asti province as a holiday destination for slow and sustainable tourism, developed through a network of paths accessible on foot, bicycle or horseback.
In this area, PIAM has been managing reception projects for refugees in collaboration with the local municipalities during the past ten years. Its cultural and natural heritage is the main factor in favouring a virtuous and ethical model of tourism. Maintenance and cleaning of the trails will be possible through the involvement of refugees. A demonstration that reception can become a key for local development.

Otto means 8 in Italian. But why the number 8?
The mapping process showed a course of about 80 kilometres that embraces more than ten municipalities. Throughout the ups and downs, detours and existing connections, this route has taken the form of an 8. These paths connect historical, cultural, landscape points of interest, picnic areas, B&B and farmhouses. Their geolocation will allow the visitors to choose the best destinations from a digital platform.
After several hiking events and «walk in progress» scoutings, PIAM reached their first major target: the tracking phase is now complete.
