Pluggable Social Platform for Heritage Awareness and Participation

Website: https://www.pluggy-project.eu/

Short description of the project:

PLUGGY is a 36 months project, funded by the EU programme for research and innovation Horizon 2020, which kicked off in December 2016. PLUGGY addresses the need of the society to be actively involved in cultural heritage activities, not only as an observer, but also as a maintainer, creator and a major influencing factor. It developed the necessary tools to allow users to share their local knowledge and everyday experience with others, together with the contribution of cultural institutions, building extensive networks around a common area interest, connecting the past, the present and the future.

PLUGGY Social Platform enables users to curate stories using PLUGGY’s Curatorial tool and to build living Virtual Exhibitions around topics they think are important and publish them for others to experience. The users are able to access the Platform’s content through a dedicated web interface and Virtual Exhibitions through the pluggable applications.

Liaison with RURITAGE:

Since PLUGGY enables the citizens of Europe, including in its less developed regions, to be actively involved in cultural heritage activities, several RURITAGE Replicators and Role Models have been invited to upload their stories on the PLUGGY Social Platform. RURITAGE is also listed in the Liaison section of the PLUGGY website.

RURITAGE approach and architecture was presented at the PLUGGY Final Conference ( Athens, 20 November 2019), during the roundtable discussions on ‘EU advances for Cultural Heritage promotion: Best practices & lessons learned’. During the event, RURITAGE moved the attention from urban to rural areas that are less explored by culture-related projects. Moreover, the use of PLUGGY tools by Role Models and Replicators’ local communities will be explored to further promote sense of belonging and culture-led engagement activities.

Both projects exchanged social media accounts to be regularly updated about new project results and upcoming activities of mutual interest.
